Bridal Makeup | San Francisco Wedding | City Hall
San Francisco, California
As you can imagine, as a bridal makeup artist, my focus is always on the dozens of brides I book each year. The emails about airbrush makeup, the phone calls about a shade of peach... the engagement session photo makeup, followed by the bridal makeup trial run session.. and eventually my client's big day. I am a very busy girl, and before I knew it, my own wedding date was creeping up on me.
Naturally, leading up to just days before my own wedding last September, and directly right after my mini-moon, (Okay...I mean during my mini-moon, I can't lie-I was emailing on the beach, and on the road trip home...I know, sorry honey!!!) my attention was, and always is, turned to all the beautiful clients I have made a successful career catering to for over ten years now. I was getting married in the thick of the season, and I was swamped before, and after my big day.
With the skill of a master, and with the calming, patient love that only your best friend can give, Jill made me feel more beautiful than I ever have.
Thank you, Jill; my best friend, my colleague, my sister, my heart. I love you.

Always the makeup artist no more! It was finally my turn to be on the other side of the brush!

Ok...so I like to touch up!!!

(Hence this well over-due post just now FINALLY coming to fruition)...
When it came to planning my own bridal makeup, such as colors, style, etc., I was, like I always am, and against my own advice to all my brides...a bit of a procrastinator. I know, I know...I didn't practice what I preach, but what I DID know, was that as experienced a professional makeup artist I am, and as opinionated as I am about my own makeup, I knew I couldn't -WOULDN'T dare- do my own bridal makeup.
...At least not all of it!
I trusted my best friend of fifteen years, and owner and creator of Beauty Box Makeup Arts, Jill briggs, to help me with my wedding makeup. While (of course) I had a hand in choosing and blending my contour and cheek and eye colors, and a few other of the minor details that only a makeup artist would want control of, I couldn't have imagined anyone else doing the job that my shaky hands and racing heart could in no way manage on their own. Plus, Jill would have never let me get away with my everyday nude lip!

PS...A few things I learned about my experience of being on the other end of the brush:
- HIRE A PROFESSIONAL! This goes without saying. Many ladies can do great makeup. Your aunt, your beauty school grad neighbor, your friend who works at Clinique, etc. But NOBODY knows how to manage a nervous bride and wrangle a gaggle of bridesmaids (and manage to do gorgeous makeup in a timely manner to boot) with the skill and deft of a seasoned professional. NOT YOU, NO ONE.
- I bought a brand new Versace lipgloss and lip pencil, and a LeClerc pressed powder for touch ups to keep in the little gold clutch bag I searched for months for and bought on Etsy. (Of course, fancy pants-y vain me.) Guess what? I was having so much fun at my reception that I didn't use them once. No joke.
- Wear comfy shoes. It had to be said. Sorry ladies.
